news &#8211; the Irish Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) reportedly secured a court forfeiture order for around 6.000 Bitcoin (or 5.500 according to some sources), deemed to be proceeds of crime.<\/p><p>All major Irish news outlets ran this story, with varying degrees of details:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-c24abce elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"c24abce\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-b712dd6\" data-id=\"b712dd6\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>&#8220;A man has been made to forfeit Bitcoin worth \u20ac52m by the High Court as part of an investigation into the sale and supply of drugs.<\/em><\/p><p><em>The cryptocurrency was discovered by the Criminal Assets Bureau as part of a garda\u00a0inquiry.<\/em><\/p><p><em>It is understood that the \u20ac52m in bitcoin represents the largest single-value asset ever seized by CAB since it began operating in 1996.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><p>Source: <a success, that puts Irish law enforcement into the global spotlight and that will undoubtedly contribute to the promotion efforts of several bureaucrats within An Garda Siochana and the Criminal Assets Bureau.<\/p><p>But what actually happened and who controls all this Bitcoin?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-9084b78 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"9084b78\" data-element_type=\"section\" them<\/strong> offered a correct explanation &#8220;<em>of the cryptocurrency bitcoin<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p><p>I guess that due to time constraints and the complexity of the topic every author just ran with a copy and paste version of the story, thus perpetuating nonsensical phrases like:<\/p><ul><li><em>&#8220;units of digital bitcoin&#8221;,<\/em><\/li><li><em>&#8220;online money exists in digital wallets&#8221;,<\/em><\/li><li><em>&#8220;codes crucial to accessing the money&#8221;<\/em>,<\/li><li><em>&#8220;the value of the crypto cash will eventually flow back to the taxpayers&#8221;<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-9e53db8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"9e53db8\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 \u20ac52m Bitcoin story and correct a number of errors in the media narrative.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-26ba957 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"26ba957\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element Bitcoin is not a physical asset<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-44ba141 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"44ba141\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-5b53fc2\" data-id=\"5b53fc2\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4c2fdca elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4c2fdca\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>First of all, you cannot &#8220;seize&#8221; Bitcoin. At least not in the traditional meaning of the word.<\/p><p>Bitcoin is an internet protocol for storing and exchanging monetary value. It exists purely online and the Internet connection is absolutely necessary to utilise this protocol.<\/p><p>Bitcoin does not have a physical form.
